Teacher

As a young man, Elpidio supported his studies by teaching in grade school. He later moved to Manila to study in one of the better public high schools. Working while studying at the University of the Philippines, he graduated with a degree in law in 1915, the same year the Filipinos assumed majority control of the Philippine Commission, the legislative body of the Philippines. It was an auspicious period for those with legal knowledge and experience. He was accepted as law clerk at the Philippine Commission on the same year.
